Sidewalk construction begins in Highland Park Thursday

Aug 4, 2021 | 5:16 PM

The City of Grande Prairie is starting sidewalk construction work in Highland Park on Thursday.

The work, part of the annual sidewalk program in Grande Prairie, aims to replace existing sidewalks so they are accessible for all.

Construction will take place on:

  • 99B Street between 87 Avenue and 85 Avenue.
  • 99 Street between 88 Avenue and 85 Avenue.
  • 85 Avenue between 99B Street and 99 Street.
  • Within the Park Avenues.

In Grande Prairie, the standard for roads in residential areas is a 1.5 metre sidewalk on one side of the road and a 10.5 metre road width. The city says sidewalks in the area will be brought as close to the city’s standard as possible, while others will be removed.

The sidewalks that will be replaced with a standard curb and gutter include:

  • East of 99 Street from north of 86 Park Avenue to 88 Avenue
  • West of 99 Street from 85 Avenue to north of 86 Park Avenue
  • East of 99B Street from south of 86 Avenue to 87 Avenue
  • West of 99B Street from 85 Avenue to south of 86 Avenue

Residents are reminded to use caution in construction areas and obey all posted signage.

The 2021 Sidewalk Program construction is expected to be complete by the end of September.

With this work, the Charles Turner Park near the corner of 88 Avenue and 100 Street is expected to be closed for one week for the sidewalk replacement.
