Grande Prairie adds 42 new cases of COVID-19

There were 42 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the City of Grande Prairie for Wednesday, August 4 along with four recoveries, raising the active case total in the city to 130.

Also Wednesday there were 11 new cases recorded in the County of Grande Prairie along with two recoveries, where there are now 22 active cases.

Across Alberta there were 397 new cases detected following the completion of 7,460 tests. There are now 2,526 active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta as of August 4.

Updated active case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day August 4 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 130 active
  • County of Grande Prairie: 22 active
  • MD of Greenview: two active
  • MD of Spirit River: five active
  • MD of Peace: six active
  • MD of Fairview: three active
  • Big Lakes County: five active
  • Clear Hills County: one active
  • County of Northern Lights: one active
  • Mackenzie County: four active

Hospitalizations grew by five in the province to 102 as of Wednesday night, with 24 of those people in an ICU. In the North Zone, there remains seven people in hospital, one of whom is in an ICU.

One new death was reported to Alberta Health from COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, the first death reported in six days in the province. There have been 2,329 people who have died from COVID-19 since March of 2020.

As ofr vaccination rates, there have been 35,520 people in Grande Prairie who have received their first dose, equating to 57.7 per cent of the eligible population. Of those people, 29,783 people, or 48.3 per cent of those eligible, have been fully vaccinated.

Those numbers are below the provincial rate of 76.2 per cent of eligible people who have their first dose of vaccine. A total of 66.2 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated with two doses.
