Busy upcoming week for rodeo related events in Peace Region

It is a busy week for rodeo and related events in the Peace Country.

The first performance at the Field of Dreams Stampede in La Crete is set for Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The rodeo slack is set for Wednesday morning at 10 a.m., with the second main performance at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night.

The Dawson Creek Exhibition & Stampede starts Wednesday, August 11. The chuckwagons race all five nights at 5:30 p.m. B.C. time with the main rodeo performances at 1:15 p.m. B.C. time Friday through Sunday. The slack performance goes at 10 a.m. BC time Thursday.

Heading into these two events, Fort St. John’s Stephen Culling is first in the Canadian steer wrestling standings. Clayton Moore of Puce Coupe is seventh, and Sexsmith’s Lee Rombough 22nd.

Rombough is also 20th in the tie-down roping.

Jake Watson from Hudson’s Hope is ninth in the saddle bronc standings.

Grande Prairie’s Jennifer Neudorf is 15th in barrel racing.

Marty Lillico, who is originally from Spirit River but now lives in Stettler, is 19th among team roping headers.

Fairview’s Brodie Roessler is third in the novice saddle bronc rankings.

It’s not just professional cowgirls and cowboys that will be busy this weekend.

Valleyview will host the Crocus Hill Stampede Friday through Sunday. Friday events will include roping at 5:30 then team roping at 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday will include the rodeo slack at 8 a.m. followed by local and junior events at 10 a.m. and Wildrose Rodeo Association performances at 2 p.m.

The Cranberry Lake Rodeo Association will host the next in its series of team roping and barrel racing jackpots Saturday.
