Grande Prairie adds 35 new COVID-19 cases, 10 recoveries

There were 35 new COVID-19 cases identified in the City of Grande Prairie for Monday, August 9, along with 10 recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases in the Swan City to 218.

In the County of Grande Prairie, cases grew by six to 45 over the weekend.

The Earls location in Grande Prairie was also added to Alberta’s COVID-19 outbreak list. EverythingGP has reached out to Alberta Health to find out how many cases are linked to the facility.

COVID-19 outbreaks are declared when there are 10 or more cases at a public setting, such as restaurants, salons and gyms.

Across the province, Alberta added 279 new cases and completed 5,424 tests, resulting in a 5.1 per cent test positivity rate. There are currently 3,463 active cases in the province.

Updated active case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day August 9 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 218 active
  • County of Grande Prairie: 45 active
  • MD of Greenview: five active
  • MD of Spirit River: five active
  • MD of Peace: 16 active
  • MD of Fairview: four active
  • MD of Smoky River: three active
  • Big Lakes County: six active
  • Clear Hills County: one active
  • County of Northern Lights: two active
  • Mackenzie County: 13 active

Across the province, hospitalizations grew by four to 133, while ICU patients grew by three to 29.

In Grande Prairie, 58 per cent of residents eligible have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 49.3 per cent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 76.5 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, while 67.1 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
