Grande Prairie adds 16 new COVID-19 cases, Alberta adds 501

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 16 new cases of COVID-19 for August 10, along with seven recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases in the Swan City to 227.

On Tuesday, Alberta Health officially listed the Grande Prairie Earl’s as a COVID-19 outbreak location. Alberta Health tells EverythingGP there are 10 cases linked to that facility. Six cases are active and four are recovered.

The Earls location in Grande Prairie is currently the only outbreak listed in the City.

COVID-19 outbreaks are declared when there are 10 or more cases in a public setting, such as restaurants, salons and gyms.

In the County of Grande Prairie, new COVID-19 cases grew by four from 45 to 49.

Across Alberta there were 501 new cases identified on 8,613 tests, resulting in a 5.8 per cent test positivity rate. There are currently 3,769 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

Updated active case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day August 10 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 227 active
  • County of Grande Prairie: 49 active
  • MD of Greenview: six active
  • MD of Spirit River: four active
  • MD of Peace: 17 active
  • MD of Fairview: four active
  • MD of Smoky River: six active
  • Big Lakes County: six active
  • Clear Hills County: zero active
  • County of Northern Lights: two active
  • Mackenzie County: 15 active

Over the last 24 hours in Alberta, hospitalizations grew by five to 138, while ICU patients grew by two to 31.

In Grande Prairie, 58.1 per cent of residents eligible have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 49.5 per cent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 76.5 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, while 67.2 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
