Grande Prairie Public Library & Northreach Society team up to host municipal election forum

Aug 16, 2021 | 2:16 PM

The Grande Prairie Public Library, in partnership with the Northreach Society, will be holding a municipal election forum on August 25 from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Director for the GPPL Deb Cryderman says this forum will allow candidates to learn about some of the agencies they may eventually help serve.

“When we were thinking about a format, we decided that we would gather agencies and give them a platform to share their information with the candidates and give the candidates the opportunity to learn a little bit more about the agencies,” said Cryderman.

The reverse-style forum will feature 12 local agencies participating in the event. Each agency will give a brief presentation about what it is they do and answer questions from candidates.

Local agencies taking part in the forum include:

  • Wapiti House
  • Grande Prairie Youth Emergency Shelter Society
  • Centre for Young Parents, Canadian Mental Health Association
  • Centerpoint Facilitation
  • Grande Prairie Pride Society, Gay and Lesbian Association of the Peace
  • Art Gallery of Grande Prairie
  • Saint Lawrence Centre
  • Odyssey House
  • Northreach Society
  • Grande Prairie Public Library

Cryderman encourages residents to attend the forum to learn more about the agencies that help serve the Grande Prairie community.

“The public is welcome to come on in and join us,” said Cryderman. “We’ve set aside two hours, and that should give time for each of the agencies to give a quick presentation and answer some questions. It should give a little bit of time at the end for people to socialize, gather and ask their own questions.”

She says this forum will also be a great opportunity for residents to learn about the candidates before election day on October 18.

“I’d love to see everyone here. It is a great opportunity for you to gather information before you cast your ballot. Everyone, please vote, because it is so important,” she said.

For those who cannot attend the event in person, the full event will be live-streamed on the Grande Prairie Public Libraries Facebook page.
