Grande Prairie records 82 new COVID-19 cases over weekend, 32 recoveries

There were 82 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the City of Grande Prairie from August 13-15, along with 32 recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases in the Swan City up to 317 as of the end of day Sunday.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 27 new cases recorded over the last three days along with four recoveries. There are now 86 active cases there.

Across Alberta, there were 1,407 new cases identified (564 on Aug. 13, 451 on Aug. 14 and 392 on Aug. 15) on 20,489 tests, resulting in a 6.9 per cent test positivity rate. Currently, there are 5,354 active cases in the province.

Active case totals, as of August 15, among Peace Region municipalities are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 317 active (+50)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 86 active (+23)
  • MD of Greenview: 11 active (+3)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (+1)
  • MD of Spirit River: five active (+1)
  • Saddle Hills County: one active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 19 active (+1)
  • MD of Fairview: five active (-)
  • MD of Smoky River: 11 active (+2)
  • Big Lakes County: 14 active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: five active (+2)
  • Northern Sunrise County: six active (+6)

Over the last three days in Alberta, hospitalizations grew by nine to 161, while the number of people in an ICU grew by six to 43.

Of the 118 people in hospital, 90 are unvaccinated and another nine are only partially vaccinated. Of the 43 in the ICU, 39 are unvaccinated and two are only partially vaccinated.

In the North Zone, there are 14 people in hospital due to COVID-19 (up three), three of whom are in intensive care (up one).

In Grande Prairie, 58.5 per cent of residents eligible (aged 12 and older) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 50.1 per cent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 76.8 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, while 67.9 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
