GPCSD names Acting Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning

The Board of Trustees and Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools announced Christie Watson as their Acting Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning.

Watson is filling Dr. Jessie Shirley’s former role who recently stepped into her current role as their Acting Superintendent of Schools.

With her roots in Grande Prairie, Watson has worked with the division for 15 years. During that time, she worked as an Instructional Lead in differentiation and literacy, an Assistant High School Principal at St. Joseph Catholic High School, and an Elementary School Teacher at three GPCSD schools.

Recently Watson completed her Masters’s Degree in Literacy from the University of New England.

Prior to that, Watson received her Bachelor in Education from the University of Alberta. In addition to being a Montessori trained teacher from the North American Montessori Center.

The district adds Watson is an active member of her local church community is a volunteer for school faith-related activities and events.

Watson adds she is proud to be part of the Catholic School Division.

“Our Division is full of positive, enthusiastic, supportive, hardworking administrators and teachers. I am blessed to work alongside and support this team of professionals.”

Watson hopes to make education exciting and inspiring for students.
