Grande Prairie records 18 new COVID-19 cases, five recoveries

There were 18 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the City of Grande Prairie for Monday, August 16, along with five recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases in the Swan City up to 330.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 12 new cases recorded on Monday. There are now 98 active cases there.

Across Alberta, there were 407 new cases identified on 5,475 tests, resulting in a 7.4 per cent test positivity rate. Of those new cases in Alberta, 74 per cent were in unvaccinated people (313 cases), nine per cent were in thsoe who are partially vaccinated (37 cases) and the remaining 71 cases were in people who are fully vaccinated.

Active case totals, as of August 17, among Peace Region municipalities are as follows:

The Grande Prairie Care Centre and TC Energy in Grande Prairie were both added to the province’s outbreak lists.

There are currently three active COVID-19 cases and no recoveries listed at the Grande Prairie Care Centre.

The TC Energy outbreak has 11 active cases and zero recoveries, while the Grande Prairie Earls is down to one active case and has seen nine recoveries.

Across the province, hospitalizations in Alberta grew by 16 to 176 on Monday, while the number of people in an ICU grew by one to 44.

Of the 132 non-ICU patients, 77.3 per cent are unvaccinated, or 102 people. Another 11 people are only partially vaccinated, while 19 are fully vaccinated.

Of the 44 people in the ICU, 39 are unvaccinated and two are partially vaccinated.

In the North Zone, there are 15 people in hospital due to COVID-19 (up one), three of whom are in intensive care (unchanged).

In Grande Prairie, 58.6 per cent of residents eligible (aged 12 and older) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 50.3 per cent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 76.9 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, while 68 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
