Grande Prairie adds 33 new COVID 19 cases, 12 recoveries

There were 33 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the City of Grande Prairie for Wednesday, August 18, along with 12 recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases in the Swan City up to 337.

Active cases in the County of Grande Prairie are up to 112 over the last 24 hours, an increase of 10 from Wednesday’s update.

Across Alberta, there were 817 new cases identified on 9,971 tests, resulting in an 8.1 per cent test positivity rate.

Active case totals, as of August 18, among Peace Region municipalities are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 337 active (+33)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 112 active (+10)
  • MD of Greenview: 16 active (+3)
  • Birch Hills County: two active (+1)
  • MD of Spirit River: four active (-)
  • Saddle Hills County: three active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 33 active (+2)
  • MD of Fairview: four active (-)
  • MD of Smoky River: 17 active (+2)
  • Big Lakes County: 16 active (+1)
  • County of Northern Lights: four active (-)

Across the province, hospitalizations in Alberta grew by 14 to 198 on Wednesday, while the number of people in an ICU dropped by five to 43.

In the North Zone, there are 22 people in hospital due to COVID-19 (up three), four of whom are in intensive care (same).

In Grande Prairie, 58.8 per cent of residents eligible (aged 12 and older) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 50.5 per cent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 77.1 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, while 68.3 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
