Grande Prairie Firefighters Charitable Foundation set to host annual golf tournament

Aug 19, 2021 | 5:00 AM

The Grande Prairie Firefighters Charitable Foundation is hosting its annual golf tournament on August 29 at the Grande Prairie Golf & Country Club.

The tournament is an opportunity to raise funds for Sparky’s Secret Wish campaign to help out local families in need, as well as local school nutrition programs.

Justin Davidson, the Chairperson for the GPFCF, says this tournament is one of their biggest fundraisers of the year, adding they are trying to raise money for as many families in need as possible.

“This year we’re trying to aim (to help) 50 families. We were able to do 50 last year,” explained Davidson.

He says they are hopeful they will be able to get to pre-pandemic donation numbers during this year’s tournament.

“We donated a little bit less than we usually do last year to each family individually. We will try to aim for another 50 this year and give our individual donations a bump back up before COVID too,” said Davidson.

“With the funds with the golf tournament this year, we should be able to achieve that.”

This year’s golf tournament will feature several activities golfers can participate in.

A ball drop will be happening around 11:30 a.m. There will also be four different hospitality holes, trivia carts, live patio music in the evening, as well as a silent auction.

Davidson says currently the tournament is half full and there is room for 144 golfers.

He adds the tournament will be COVID safe.

“We are still going to be COVID safe. When we planned this in June, we weren’t sure what restrictions would look like, but we are going to be sticking to our original plan. We figure we’ll keep outside as much as we possibly can.”

Davidson adds the more golfers they can get this year, the better chance they have of raising money for those in need.

You can sign up for the tournament by emailing gpfdcharity@gmail.com or by checking out their website.
