Grande Prairie adds 25 new COVID-19 cases, 28 recoveries

There were 25 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the City of Grande Prairie for Thursday, August 19, along with 28 recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases in the Swan City down to 334.

Active cases in the County of Grande Prairie are up to 129 over the last 24 hours, an increase of 17 from Thursday’s update.

Across Alberta, there were 749 new cases identified from 9,005 tests, resulting in an 8.3 per cent test positivity rate.

Active case totals, as of August 19, among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 334 active (-3)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 129 active (+17)
  • MD of Greenview: 20 active (+4)
  • Birch Hills County: three active (+1)
  • MD of Spirit River: five active (-)
  • Saddle Hills County: three active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 34 active (+1)
  • MD of Fairview: three active (-1)
  • MD of Smoky River: 23 active (+6)
  • Big Lakes County: 19 active (+3)
  • County of Northern Lights: four active (-)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 14 active (+4)
  • Mackenzie County: 36 active (-2)

Across the province, hospitalizations in Alberta grew by 23 to 221 on Thursday, while the number of people in the ICU increased by five to 48.

In the North Zone, there are 24 people in hospital due to COVID-19 (up two), four of whom are in intensive care (same).

In Grande Prairie, 58.8 per cent of residents eligible (aged 12 and older) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 50.6 per cent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 77.2 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, while 68.5 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
