McLennan RCMP charge male, female with kidnapping, firearms offences

Aug 23, 2021 | 5:24 PM

RCMP in McLennan say they have arrested and charged two people Monday with offences which include kidnapping with a firearm and other weapons-related charges.

This comes after police say they were on patrol in the area of Highway 49 and Range Road 24, east of Wanham, at around 11:30 a.m., when officers observed some suspicious vehicles. RCMP say they quickly connected one vehicle as being involved in recent crimes in the area, though authorities did not specify what those crimes allegedly were.

However, Mukhtar Ali and Samantha Camber were both arrested at the scene for possession of stolen property.

Police then say as a result of a further investigation led to additional charges for offences that allegedly had recently occurred “in McLennan RCMP jurisdiction”.

Ali, a 33-year-old from Nampa, has been remanded in custody following a judicial hearing. He is facing 16 charges, including but not limited to kidnap while using a firearm with intent for victim to be confined against will, use a restricted firearm to commit robbery, use violence to steal a firearm and utter threats.

Camber, a 22-year-old of Girouxville, has also been remanded into custody following a judicial hearing.

She is facing 10 criminal charges, including, but not limited to, kidnap while using a firearm with intent for victim to be confined against will, use a restricted firearm to commit robbery, use violence to steal a firearm and utter threats.

McLennan RCMP say the investigation is ongoing, and that now that this matter is before the court, no further information will be released.
