Grande Prairie adds 48 new COVID-19 cases, 27 recoveries

There were 48 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the City of Grande Prairie on August 23, along with 27 recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases in the Swan City up by 21 to 384.

Active cases in the County of Grande Prairie are up 18 to 166 active cases over the past 24 hours.

Across Alberta, there were 629 new cases identified on August 23 from 6,010 tests, resulting in a 10.5 per cent test positivity rate.

Active case totals, as of August 23, among Peace Region municipalities are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 363 active (+21)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 166 active (+18)
  • MD of Greenview: 25 active (-)
  • Birch Hills County: four active (+1)
  • MD of Spirit River: seven active (-)
  • Saddle Hills County: two active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 38 active (+5)
  • MD of Fairview: five active (+2)
  • MD of Smoky River: 29 active (-)
  • Big Lakes County: 36 active (+2)
  • County of Northern Lights: four active (-)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 15 active (+1)
  • Mackenzie County: 3 active (+1)

Over the past 24 hours, Hospitalizations in Alberta due to COVID-19 jumped up by 14 to 258, with 57 people in the ICU, an increase of three from Sunday night.

Hospitalizations declined in the North Zone, meanwhile, going from 21 to 20, while three people remain in the ICU.

Seven more deaths from COVID-19 were reported to Alberta Health over the past 24 hours. A total of 2,355 Albertans have died as a result of COVID-19.

In Grande Prairie, 59.1 per cent of residents eligible (aged 12 and older) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 51 per cent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 77.4 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, while 68.9 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
