Proof of Vaccination

Vaccine cards coming to Alberta, but won’t be mandatory

Aug 26, 2021 | 4:58 PM

EDMONTON – Albertans will soon be able to print off a card to show they have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

But province-wide rules requiring proof of vaccination to enter place such as restaurants or sports events remain off the table.

Alberta Health says residents will soon be able to print off a card-sized copy of their COVID shots to show to businesses requiring proof of vaccination.

Spokeswoman Lisa Glover says she can’t yet give a timeline on when those cards will be ready.

Some businesses and sports teams are already requiring proof of vaccination, but there is no province-wide requirement.

B.C. and Quebec are bringing in provincial rules next month requiring proof of vaccination to go to non-essential, high-risk places such as bars and restaurants.

Premier Jason Kenney has previously rejected similar rules for Alberta and his government says that remains the case, despite sharply rising COVID case numbers.
