Grande Prairie adds 118 new COVID-19 cases over weekend

The active number of COVID-19 cases in Grande Prairie continued to climb over the weekend, as the Swan City added 118 new cases along with 79 recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases in the city to 476.

In the County of Grande Prairie, active COVID-19 cases grew slightly by five up to 190.

Across Alberta, there were 3,056 new cases identified from August 27-29. There were 1,231 new cases added on August 27, 960 added on August 28 and 865 identified on August 29. The three days combined for a 10.4 per cent test positivity rate.

Alberta currently has 11,426 COVID-19 active cases in the province.

Active case totals, as of August 29, among Peace Region municipalities are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 476 active (+49)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 190 active (+5)
  • MD of Greenview: 61 active (+27)
  • Birch Hills County: three active (-1)
  • MD of Spirit River: nine active (-1)
  • Saddle Hills County: five active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 67 active (+9)
  • MD of Fairview: seven active (+3)
  • MD of Smoky River: 31 active (+4)
  • Big Lakes County: 56 active (+11)
  • County of Northern Lights: nine active (+1)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 26 active (+6)
  • Mackenzie County: 98 active (+23)

Across the province, hospitalizations grew by 65 over the weekend to 401, with 98 people in the ICU, an increase of 24.

In the North Zone, 53 people are in hospital (up 17), six of which are in the ICU (up three).

There were seven COVID-19 deaths reported over the last 24 hours, 2,371 people have now died from COVID-19 in Alberta.

In Grande Prairie, 59.8 per cent of residents eligible (aged 12 and older) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 51.7 per cent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 77.9 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, while 69.7 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
