Grande Prairie photographer Cassandra Jones is continuing to add to her awards collection.

In late August it was announced that Jones had three of her photos place first in three different categories during the first trimester at the Cosmos Awards.

The Cosmos Awards are an international competition that has some of the best photographers in the world submit their work in different categories and has it critiqued by various world-class judges.

Jones placed first in the Creative Portrait Composite, Portrait Newborn, and Portrait Group/Family categories.

“It’s pretty competitive,” said Jones. “It’s an international competition and there’s different categories you can win and I won three of them.”

Jones says the three pictures she submitted all have a different and unique story.

“The fireman image was a really special image that I did for a local family for their son’s grave. That was one that really tugged at my heart strings and when I took it, it was one of those really special images you don’t get to capture every day,” she explained.

“It captured so much emotion and I felt there was so much story in the man in the image and in his face and that was a really special image for me.”

The fireman photo placed first in the Creative Portrait Composite category.

In the Portrait Group/Family category, Jones submitted a photo that she took of a group of quadruplets from Hythe.

“The quadruplets are local (from Hythe). They’re the most mesmerizing children in the whole world,” she said. “They’re just so incredibly special and so energetic and loving and bouncy and I just loved that image. It just perfectly sums up childhood.”

The photo of the twins placed first in the Family Newborn category. Jones said this was one she just really enjoyed.

“The twins were just a client image that I just fell in love with. Twins have a special place in my heart.”

Jones described winning the awards as a big honour.

Jones tells EverythingGP she’s slowed down on entering competitions this year as she looks to build a new home studio out on an acreage close to town.
