Storm jump out to big lead, hang on to upend Grizzlys

The Olds Grizzlys did make the end result of Sunday’s game a little more interesting, but in the end, the Grande Prairie Storm were justly rewarded for a dominating effort.

In stark contrast to Saturday night’s preseason matchup between the two teams, the Storm dominated for most of Sunday’s affair, en route to a 5-4 win over their southern division foe.

The line of Nathaniel Bierd, Zach Brooks, and Edge Lambert combined for three goals and six points to pace the Storm attack. Each member of the line scored once, while Bierd added two assists while Brooks added a single helper.

Benjamin Keon and Hudson Foley also scored for the Storm, who for the second game in a row tallied three times with the power play.

Tyler Green, Tijs Vreys, True Crowe and Jordan Saunders replied for the Grizzlys, who scored three times in the final 7:38 of the hockey game to make it close.

Sunday’s game was a spirited affair, as the two teams combined for 164 penalty minutes.

The Storm will continue their exhibition schedule on Thursday when they travel down Highway 43 to face Whitecourt.

They will then head to Fort McMurray to wrap up the preseason with a weekend pair against the Oil Barons.
