Mobile Mammography Trailer

Mobile mammography trailer visiting Hythe in October

Sep 7, 2021 | 1:01 PM

Alberta Health Services says women aged 50 to 74, which are the group most at risk of developing breast cancer, will have local access to mammography services next month.

The mobile mammography trailer will be parked at the Hythe legion from October 6-8.

As part of a partnership between AHS screening programs and Screen Test, cervical and colorectal cancer screening will be available at the Beaverlodge Medical Clinic during the same time, where a female nurse practitioner will provide the screening.

With the addition of cervical and colorectal screening, AHS says they are working to make cancer screening more convenient with just one stop.

“A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast and has proven to be the most effective way to detect breast cancer. Early detection allows for a greater number of options for treatment and a better chance of survival.”

AHS says women between the ages of 25 and 69 should regularly have cervical cancer screening using pap tests, and everyone between the ages of 50 to 74 should get screened for colorectal cancer.

“Having regular cancer screening can prevent and detect cancer at its early stages when treatment is more effective.”

Appointments can be made for mammography services, cervical and colorectal cancer screening by calling Screen Test at 1-800-667-0604.
