A Peace Region man has been arrested on dozens of outstanding warrants by the Western Alberta District RCMP Rural Crime Reduction Unit.

On September 2, the Western Alberta District RCMP Rural Crime Reduction Unit executed a warrant at a residence in Berwyn and arrested 38-year-old Stephen Douglas Taylor of Hines Creek.

Police say Taylor attempted to flee from police several times, before he was apprehended.

Taylor was arrested on 37 outstanding warrants for a variety of property and person-related crimes which reportedly occurred throughout the Peace Country.

The charges Taylor is facing includes:

  • Several counts of failing to comply with previously set bail conditions.
  • Possession of a reportedly stolen property over $5000.
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon.
  • Possession of controlled drugs and substances: suspected methamphetamine.

“The sheer volume of Mr. Taylor’s warrants and new charges speak to the impact that one individual can have with respect to rural crime within the region,” explained Cpl. Chris Power of the Western Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit in a release issued by the RCMP.

“Our unit is dedicated to providing support to detachments by deploying specialized investigational tactics to identify, locate and arrest individuals who are preying upon rural Albertans in the commission of criminal acts.”

After an in-custody judicial hearing, Taylor was remanded before appearing in Peace River Provincial Court on September 8.
