Grande Prairie adds 31 new COVID-19 cases, 61 recoveries

There were 31 new COVID-19 cases along with 61 recoveries added in the City of Grande Prairie for September 8, bringing the number of active cases in the city down to 477.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were no new cases identified and eight recoveries, dropping the active case total there to 170.

There was one death from COVID-19 reported in the County on Thursday, becoming the eighth fatality in the region.

The death was one of nine reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours from COVID-19 in the province. That brings the death toll in Alberta to 2,434.

Two of the deaths were in the North Zone. One was a female in her 70s, the case involved pre-existing conditions. The other death was a female in her 80s, that person had no pre-existing conditions.

Alberta as a whole added 1,510 new COVID-19 cases on 13,736 tests completed, resulting in an 11 per cent test positivity rate.

Active case totals, as of September 8 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 477 active (-28)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 170 active (-8)
  • MD of Greenview: 91 active (+4)
  • Birch Hills County: four active (+2)
  • MD of Spirit River: five active (+1)
  • Saddle Hills County: five active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 97 active (-2)
  • MD of Fairview: 26 active (+1)
  • MD of Smoky River: 22 active (-)
  • Big Lakes County: 96 active (+1)
  • Clear Hills County: 12 active (+4)
  • County of Northern Lights: 38 active (+4)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 31 active (-1)
  • Mackenzie County: 125 active (-10)

Across the province, hospitalizations grew by 32 over the last 24 hours to 679, with 154 people in ICU, an increase of seven from the day prior.

In the North Zone, 78 people are in hospital (up nine) with nine of those patients in the ICU (same).

In Grande Prairie, 61.1 per cent of residents who are eligible (those aged 12 and up) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 53 per cent of the eligible population have been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 78.8 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, while 70.8 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
