Dr. Vanessa Sheane has been named Grande Prairie Regional College’s (GPRC) Vice-President, Academic and Research of GPRC.

She was appointed by Acting GPRC President and CEO Dr. Glenn Feltham in advance of the Fall 2021 semester.

Dr. Sheane says she is a proud alumnus of the school and adds she’s passionate about the institution.

“I am excited and honoured to have this opportunity to lead the Academic Division at GPRC during this historic time of change,” she said in a release.

Dr. Sheane was a tenured faculty member with the Department of Nursing Education and Health Studies. She hopes in this role, she’ll be able to help grow GPRC.

“I am very much looking forward to strengthening the relationship with our communities, industry, future students, and to growing regional connections,” she explained.

“We have a great opportunity for collective impact, and I intend to sharpen our focus on enrolment, academic program mix, applied research, and the overall student experience.”

Prior to receiving her position, she began her teaching career at GPRC in 2012 and became the Dean of the School of Health, Wellness and Career Studies in 2020.

“Dr. Sheane is a respected academic and strong leader – she is trusted and respected,” explained Dr. Feltham.

“She understands and believes in our institution – as a former student, faculty member and leader. We will all benefit from her knowledge and experience, as well as her genuine and persistent drive to elevate the post-secondary experience in northwestern Alberta.”

The release adds that due to Dr. Sheane’s vision, GPRC was able to launch two new health career pathways. More on Dr. Sheane can be found at the GPRC website.
