Grande Prairie records 33rd COVID-19 death, adds 45 new cases

The City of Grande Prairie recorded its 33rd death from COVID-19, along with identifying 45 new cases and 53 recoveries over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of active cases in the Swan City down to 488.

The death in Grande Prairie was one of three confirmed in the North Zone over the last 24 hours.

There were a total of 24 deaths reported as a result of COVID-19 in the province over the last day, bringing the province’s COVID-19 death toll up to 2,495.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 24 new cases added along with 17 recoveries, bringing the active case total there up to 185.

Across Alberta there were 1,609 new cases of COVID-19 identified on 15,831 tests, resulting in a 10.1 per cent test positivity rate.

Active case totals, as of September 14 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 488 active (-9)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 185 active (+7)

  • MD of Spirit River: 18 active (+2)
  • Saddle Hills County: six active (+1)
  • MD of Peace: 124 active (+6)
  • MD of Fairview: 34 active (-)
  • MD of Smoky River: 14 active (-10)
  • Big Lakes County: 109 active (+7)
  • Clear Hills County: 21 active (-1)
  • County of Northern Lights: 55 active (+1)

Across Alberta, hospitalizations grew by 55 to 877, while the number of patients in the ICU grew by six to 218.

Of those 218 patients in the ICU, 192 are unvaccinated, 11 are partially vaccinated and 15 are fully vaccinated.

In the North Zone, hospitalizations grew by 13 up to 98, while ICU patients held steady at 14.

In Grande Prairie, 62.1 per cent of residents who are eligible (those aged 12 and up) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 53.7 per cent of the eligible population have been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 79.5 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, while 71.4 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
