United Way Alberta Northwest adds new event to annual Fire Truck Pull fundraiser

Sep 15, 2021 | 1:25 PM

A new event has been added to the United Way Alberta Northwest’s annual Fire Truck Pull at the Bonnetts Energy Centre on September 18.

This year, the United Way Alberta Northwest, in partnership with the Grande Prairie Auto Group, has decided to create a car smash auction for members of the public to participate in.

Members of the public are welcome to bid on items of the car they’d like to smash on the car.

Jamie Craig, the Executive Director for the United Way Alberta Northwest, says their goal is to raise as much money as possible for local organizations.

“We’re going to be auctioning pieces of the car to be smashed with a baseball bat or a sledgehammer,” she said. “All of the money raised from the car smash will go back to programs in our community.”

Craig tells EverythingGP the goal of the entire event is to raise a total of $25,000.

People have until 12:00 p.m. on September 16 to bid for spots on the vehicle they’d like to smash online. However, Craig says there is still an opportunity for people to without having to register online.

“They can go to our Facebook page, place bids, or they can come and also bid at the event itself.”

Even if you aren’t participating in the fire truck pull or the car smash, Craig encourages everyone to come out on Saturday.

“The car smash will be at 1:00 p.m. You don’t have to be a participant in the Fire Truck Pull to come to the car smash and watch. The Grande Prairie Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation is also holding a barbeque by donation.

“We encourage people to come down, grab a burger, and watch people smash a car and pull a fire truck.”
