Sep 16, 2021 | 1:54 PM

The Peace Regional RCMP says a 34-year-old male is dead after suffering a gunshot wound in Cadotte Lake on September 12.

Officers say they received a call at 12:51 p.m. on September 12, about a report of a male who had arrived at the Emergency Medical Services Station in Cadotte Lake with a gunshot wound.

The man was quickly rushed to the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Grande Prairie via STARS. He later succumbed to his injuries and died.

The Peace Regional RCMP’s investigation into this incident determined the shooting took place at a residence on Cadotte Lake in the Woodland Cree First Nation. Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was deployed to take over the investigation.

On September 14, the Major Crimes Unit arrested and charged 31-year-old Clint Carifelle of Cadotte Lake with the first-degree murder of the 34-year-old, Keith Carifelle. Both were known to each other.

Following a judicial hearing, Clint was remanded to custody and is scheduled to appear in Peace River Provincial Court on September 27.

An autopsy was conducted by the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on September 16.

The matter is now before the courts and RCMP says no further information will be provided.
