Wildfire danger moderate

Grande Prairie Forest Area wildfire danger now moderate

Sep 17, 2021 | 2:04 PM

The wildfire danger level in the Grande Prairie Forest Area is moderate.

This comes as rain and humid conditions are expected to continue into the weekend.

Alberta Wildfire is reminding hunters that small cooking and warming fires that are not properly extinguished can burn deep into the ground, and hold over for the winter months.

To avoid accidentally starting a spring wildfire, Alberta Wildfire recommends checking all burn areas to ensure they are out.

β€œTo properly extinguish a fire, completely soak the area with water, stir up the ashes and soak it again.”

Residents are also urged to get a fire permit before burning.

Since the beginning of the wildfire season, March 1, 2021 there have been 99 wildfires burning nearly 132 hectares.
