Clairmont family establishes Kyler Kindness Fund in honour of late son

A Clairmont family has created a legacy fund in honour of their late son.

The Kyler Kindness Fund has been established in honour of Kyler Commandeur, who was killed at the age of 19 in a homicide back in June 2020.

His mother, Danielle Commandeur, says the fund was established to help give back to the community, just like her son always did.

“Our son Kyler was always community-minded and willing to help people out,” she said. “We decided to establish the Kyler Kindness Fund so that Kyler can keep giving forward to other people in the community that need some support.”

Danielle says this fund will aim to help youth who are looking to start a career and get established in the adult world, but might be struggling with getting the basic supplies.

“The fund will help youth aged 16-25 become productive citizens to society. If somebody, say, was offered a job, then they can apply to the fund for a pair of work boots or help with their tuition to further their careers,” she explained. “The fund can help people out with any struggles that they might have.”

Danielle describes Kyler as someone who was always willing to help others, no matter the circumstance.

With that, she wanted to carry forward the kindness her son had well into the future, despite the tragic nature of how he lost his life.

“What happened to him is tragic, and horrid, but we don’t want him to be remembered as the victim of a crime,” said Danielle.

“We want him to be remembered as that outgoing youth that he was, and the guy that would give the shirt off of his back for his friends, or strangers alike.”

In order to raise money for the fund, the family has organized a fundraiser at their shop, Commandeur Mechanical in Clairmont, on October 15.

“We’ll have burgers, hot dogs and a bucket where people can put in money. We will also have information on the John Howard Society and hoodies that people can buy for the fund to help support. It will be in conjunction with the anniversary of our business and everything raised will go towards the Kyler Kindness Fund.”

The fundraiser will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on October 15 and everyone is encouraged to drop by and say hello.

Now 15 months past that fateful day since the death of Kyler, Danielle and her family continue to await justice for their son’s death.

However,she has a strong belief justice will be served in due time.

“We know that justice will be served eventually,” said Danielle “It is a long wait, but it will happen.”
