Grande Prairie adds 15 new COVID-19 cases, 57 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added 15 new COVID-19 cases along with 57 recoveries for September 21, bringing the active case total in the city down to 492.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 12 new cases and 14 recoveries, bringing the active case total in that region down to 221.

Across Alberta, there were 1,336 new cases identified on 14,521 tests, resulting in a 9.2 per cent test positivity rate. Currently, there are 20,304 active cases in the province.

There were 20 new deaths reported as a result of COVID-19 in Alberta, bringing the provincial death toll from the virus up to 2,594. Three of the 20 deaths recorded were in the North Zone.

Active case totals, as of September 20 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 492 active (-40)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 221 active (-2)
  • MD of Greenview: 121 active (+3)
  • Birch Hills County: four active (+2)
  • MD of Spirit River: 17 active (-0)
  • Saddle Hills County: 11 active (-1)
  • MD of Peace: 154 active (+6)
  • MD of Fairview: 48 active (-1)
  • MD of Smoky River: 28 active (-)
  • Big Lakes County: 126 active (+1)
  • Clear Hills County: 34 active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: 86 active (-3)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 26 active (-5)
  • Mackenzie County: 296 active (-41)

Across the province, hospitalizations for COVID-19 grew by 44 to 1,040, while ICU patients grew by eight up to 230.

Of the 230 COVID-19 patients currently in the ICU, 203 of them are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, hospitalizations grew by 12 to 134, while ICU patients remained stable at 12.

In Grande Prairie, 65.1 per cent of residents who are eligible (those aged 12 and up) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 55.2 per cent of the eligible population have been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 81.8 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, while 73 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
