RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigating fatal fire in Falher

Sep 23, 2021 | 4:51 PM

The RCMP Major Crime Unit is investigating a fatal structure fire in Falher after a human body was found inside.

At around 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, McLennan RCMP and Smoky River Fire Services responded to a structure fire on Central Avenue in Falher.

Once the flames were put out, police say human remains were found inside a burned trailer.

Mounties say the remains are being transported to the medical examiner who will work alongside the RCMP to determine the identity and cause of the death.

Due to the wind, police say the fire caused damage to a neighboring house and apartment complex.

The RCMP says the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing and is being led by the Alberta RCMP Major Cromes Unit with the assistance of McLennan RCMP, RCMP Forensic Identification, and a Fire Investigator.
