Storm to welcome fans back to Bonnetts Energy Centre Saturday with festival

Sep 24, 2021 | 1:30 PM

The Grande Prairie Storm will be welcoming fans back to the Bonnetts Energy Centre on Saturday, September 25, as they play host to the Sherwood Park Crusaders.

To celebrate the club’s home opener, the Storm will be hosting a free outdoor festival from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. for the community to check out.

Storm Business Manager Ryan Carter tells EverythingGP the organization is excited to welcome back fans to the arena.

“We’ve got live music, lots of activities for the kids, and some shooting cages,” explained Carter.

“There’s going to be food and beverages outside and a lot of activities throughout the day. We’re just trying to have a nice Saturday of hockey here in Canada.”

In addition to the activities, there will also be bouncy castles, giveaways, beer gardens, and a 50/50 draw.

Tomorrow’s game against the Crusaders is scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m.

Those who will be heading inside the arena will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or receive a negative COVID-19 test 72 hours before puck drop in order to watch.

The move comes as the AJHL announced that all of its clubs will be taking part in the Alberta government’s Restriction Exemption Program.

“There’s a number of ways people can come watch the games, either a quick rapid test or through proof of vaccination.”

Anyone looking to purchase tickets for the game is encouraged to buy them online.

Carter hopes that with the protocols in place, they’ll be able to put a smile on the face of Storm fans and the community.

“I think there’s been a long layoff since we’ve been able to have fans in the arena,” he said.

“We’re just really trying to put on a good event and bring out the community to support the team. The team needs the support of Grande Prairie and we’re really proud to represent the city and bring an exciting atmosphere.”

The Storm currently holds a record of 0-1-1 on the season after they dropped their first two games of the year in Drayton Valley.
