Early lead powers Storm past Crusaders in home opener

The Grande Prairie Storm jumped out to a 3-0, first period lead, and never looked back en route to a 6-5 win over Sherwood Park in the club’s 2021-22 home opener on Saturday night.

Ethan Strang scored twice, including what ended up being the winning goal with 2:20 left in the third period, in front of 1,085 fans at Bonnett’s Energy Centre.

Zach brooks added a goal and three assists for the Storm (1-1-1), who also got markers from Nathaniel Bierd, Sam Vincent, and Dayne Tews.

Jaron Desnoyers, Evan Arnold, Carmelo Crandell, Tyler Bates, and Mitchell Joss replied for the Crusaders, who pulled the Crusaders within one goal on four different occasions, but could never find the equalizer.
