Chamber hosting city municipal election forum Tuesday

Sep 28, 2021 | 6:45 AM

The Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce will be holding a virtual municipal election forum Tuesday night. It will start at 6 p.m.

All candidates for Mayor and Council in the City of Grande Prairie have been invited to take part in the live event broadcast over Zoom.

Chamber Chair Larry Gibson says they hope as many people as possible sign up to watch

“We do want people to register in advance. That way we can send them the Zoom link so that they can take part during the event,” he said.

“They can go to our website. There is a link (where) they can register. Once they do that, the Zoom link will be sent to them directly.”

People can also submit questions by emailing news@gpchamber.com or by using the Slido app.

He adds they will be looking to the public for help in determining what to ask.

“(The) Slido app is an app that you can put your questions in. But then you also get to vote up questions that are in that list,” Gibson said.

“You see the question that relates to you and the more votes in gets, the higher it goes up on the list that will be asked of the candidate.”

Gibson says they will be asking questions to candidates from various angles.

“We do have a few questions that we (will ask) directly, as well as some pre-submitted questions that our members sent in already,” he said.

“We have a good base but, of course, during the event, we’re definitely going to get more questions coming from the participants that individuals can ask or will be asked of the candidates.”

The Chamber will also host a County of Grande Prairie candidates forum on October 5.

Municipal Election Day is October 18.
