COVID-19 Update: September 29

City, County of Grande Prairie each record COVID-19 death, city adds 39 new cases

A COVID-19 death was reported in both the City and County of Grande Prairie to Alberta Health over the previous 24 hours. The two deaths recorded in the city and county were two of 34 total deaths in Alberta related to COVID-19.

There were four deaths recorded in the North Zone. The North Zone deaths included a female in her 90”s, a male in his 80’s, a male in their 70’s, a male in their 60’s. All of the deaths in the North Zone had pre-existing conditions.

There have now been 2,697 deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta.

In Grande Prairie there were 39 new cases along with 43 recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases in the city down to 478.

The County of Grande Prairie recorded 18 new cases and 25 recoveries, and there are now 276 active cases in that region.

Across Alberta, there were 1,682 new cases identified on 15,025 tests, resulting in a 11.1 per cent test positivity rate. There are 20,306 active cases in the province.

Active case totals, as of September 28 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • Birch Hills County: 18 active (+3)
  • MD of Spirit River: seven active (-1)
  • Saddle Hills County: seven active (-3)
  • MD of Peace: 179 active (-4)
  • MD of Fairview: 67 active (-1)
  • MD of Smoky River: 51 active (+2)
  • Big Lakes County: 131 active (-2)
  • Clear Hills County: 39 active (-6)
  • County of Northern Lights: 79 active (-8)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 58 active (+1)
  • Mackenzie County: 211 active (-18)

Across the province, hospitalizations dropped by 16 to 1,084, while ICU patients grew by five to 268.

Of those patients in the ICU, 232 people are unvaccinated against COVID-19.

In the North Zone hospitalizations fell by three 147, while ICU patients grew by two to 13

In Grande Prairie, 67.3 per cent of residents who are eligible (those aged 12 and up) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 56.4 per cent of the eligible population have been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 83.4 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, while 74.2 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
