Dr. Jessie Shirley has officially been selected as the new Superintendent of Schools and Chief Executive Officer for Grande Prairie and District Catholic School Division.

Back in early August, Dr. Shirley was appointed as the Acting Superintendent of Schools for the GPCSD.

Shirley takes over the position from Karl Germann who stepped down as the GPCSD Superintendent in June to move to a new role at Grande Prairie Regional College.

She has been employed by the GPCSD since 2004.

“I am honoured to accept the appointment of Superintendent/CEO for Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools and look forward to building strong connections with both our school and parish communities,” said Dr. Shirley in a news release.

“Thank you to the Board of Trustees for entrusting me with this position.”

Board Chair for the GPCSD Michael Ouellette says Dr. Shirley was the right person for the job.

“Dr. Shirley was selected from a field of truly outstanding candidates because of her demonstrated leadership capabilities and her commitment to excellence in serving our students and their families,” he said.

“We believe that her ability to build strong and positive relationships, her ability to work collaboratively, and her belief in the permeation of Catholic education will be a good fit for building on the strengths of Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools.”
