27 Charges laid

Grande Cache man facing litany of charges for alleged sexual offences

A 24-year-old Grande Cache man is facing 27 charges linked to a police investigation into alleged sexual offences that occurred earlier this year.

This comes after RCMP began an investigation back on Sept. 16, after reports came from two 16-year-old girls alleging the suspect had committed offences of a sexual nature in his home, as well as his work and personal vehicles.

An additional claim was reported three days later to Grande Cache RCMP from a 14-year-old girl, who alleged the same man had committed sexual offences in his home.

After a search warrant was executed on Sept. 29, Joseph Rene Skyler Belval was charged with 11 counts of sexual assault, fives counts of sexual interference and four counts of sexual exploitation in a position of trust towards a young person.

The 24-year-old was also charged with two counts of unlawful confinement, two counts of child luring, making sexually explicit material available to a child, assault and possession of a prohibited weapon (taser).

Police allege the offences occurred between August and September of this year, adding they believe Belval committed the offences while working in the role of security personnel in Grande Cache.

RCMP also believe there could be other victims in this case, and anyone with information is asked to come forward to Grande Cache RCMP at 780-827-3344 or their local police. Anonymous tips can also be made to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Following a judicial hearing, Belval was released from custody with conditions which include having no communication with a child under the age of 16 and not attending any public park or swimming area where anyone under the age of 16 are present or can be reasonably expected to be present. He is due to appear in Grande Cache Provincial Court on October 21.
