Wildfire danger level still moderate for Grande Prairie Forest Area

The wildfire danger level for the Grande Prairie Forest Area has remained list as moderate over the last week.

Since the beginning of the wildfire season, March 1, 2021, there have been 100 wildfires burning nearly 132 hectares of land in the Grande Prairie Forest Area.

According to Alberta Wildfire, 88 per cent of wildfires were human-caused.

Alberta Wildfire is also reminding residents that fire permits are available until October 31.

Fire permits are required for any type of burning in the Forest Protection Area. The only exception is for a cooking or warming campfire.
