RCMP arrest 23-year-old male after “crime spree”

Oct 4, 2021 | 2:38 PM

Grande Prairie RCMP say one man is facing charges after what police call a “crime spree” that occurred on Saturday afternoon.

Mounties say the crime spree started with a call at 12:35 p.m. about an armed robbery at a business located near 84 Avenue and Resources Road.

RCMP say a man with what they call “an edged weapon” demanded money and other items before smashing a plexi-glass barrier and running off without getting anything.

Just after 1:00 p.m., Mounties received another call about a break-in at a home-based business located at Range Road 71 and Township Road 710.

A window was broken in a shop and tools were taken, along with a vehicle

The suspect allegedly tried to assault the property owner with an edged weapon, before fleeing down Range Road 71 in a stolen vehicle before going the wrong way on Highway 43.

Nobody was hurt in either incident.

Just after 2:00 p.m., police got a call of a vehicle on fire in a field behind a school at 73 Avenue and 104 A Street. The vehicle matched the description of the stolen one. The suspect had fled but was arrested a short time later.

Twenty-three-year-old Tyren Field of Grande Prairie is facing charges that include robbery, break and enter, assault with a weapon, arson, and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

He was released from custody after a hearing and is due in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on October 18.
