City looking for new board and committee members

Oct 5, 2021 | 6:00 AM

Members of the public are being encouraged to apply to become a member of a board or committee with the City of Grande Prairie.

The Combative Sports Commission, Community Advisory Committee, Community Knowledge Campus Advisory Committee, Economic Development Strategic Planning & Advisory Committee, Grande Prairie Airport Commission, Grande Prairie Public Library Board, Municipal Policing Advisory Committee and Subdivision and Development Appeal Board are all looking for new members to join and help make important decisions that have an impact on the community.

“These boards are mostly made up of public members,” said Council Committee Coordinator Amanda Van Beekveld.

“Some of them have councilors on them too and they can help make decisions for all of these different ideas in the city.”

Van Beekveld says the positions do come with a time commitment.

“It depends on the committee. Most terms are a three-year term. In general, we anticipate that anybody applying would like to sit for the full term they have committed for.”

In order to become a board member, you must apply through the City of Grande Prairie’s website.

Applicants must be over the age of 18 and meet the skills, abilities and experience requirements for the position they are applying to.

Applicants have until November 19 to apply and can be made by calling 780-357-8747 or by emailing avanbeekveld@cityofgp.com.

Chosen applicants will be selected and appointed at a council meeting in December. The start date for the committee or board will be in January.
