Ryan Konowalyk appointed next County Director of Public Works

Oct 6, 2021 | 2:30 PM

The County of Grande Prairie has announced that it will be appointing Ryan Konowalyk as its new Director of Public Works, starting January 4.

Konowalyk currently serves as the Regional Director for the Peace Region with Alberta Transportation, a position he has held since 2015.

In this position, he works with approximately 35 municipalities across northwestern Alberta and provides strategic leadership to a large team.

In his new role with the County, Konowalyk will focus on leadership and daily operations of construction, infrastructure support services, public works operations and technical services.

“It is exciting, and certainly an honour, to be selected as the new Director of Public Works and especially so being able to continue serving in the northwest part of our province,” said Konowalyk.

“Ryan brings with him successes of building and leading diverse groups of individuals. He has proven to be a strong advocate who cares about the northwest region,” added CAO Joulia Whittleton.

“His ability to create relationships with a multitude of Alberta municipalities will benefit the County of Grande Prairie and our residents as demonstrated by his work in the northwest, including large initiatives such as the Highway 43 bypass and Highway 40 twinning projects.”

Konowalyk will take over from current Director of Public Works Dale Van Volkingburgh, who is retiring at the end of May 2022 after spending his entire career with the County of Grande Prairie.
