Scotty’s Burger Shack, Chozen Breed MRC raise $20,000 for local charities

After a summer of fundraising, a donation was made on behalf of Scotty’s Burger Shack and the Chozen Breed MRC bikers group earlier this week through the Fight for Hope initiative.

Over the summer, the Crooked Creek restaurant and organizations donated a combined $20,000 to go towards the Ronald McDonald House in Edmonton and the Kids With Cancer Society.

Robyn Cartwright, a manager at Scotty’s Burger Shack, says they experienced firsthand the importance of these charities a few years ago when her son had cancer, which is why they want to continue to give back.

“Our son had leukemia in 2016 and we used both of those charities. When that happened, we had no hope. We had a house fire nine months prior, so we were trying to rebuild in Grande Prairie. I literally had to load up pop bottles in my car (for gas money) so I could get home,” explained Cartwright.

“We had these charities behind us and that’s how we were able to get through (our son’s) cancer. That’s why we do give back because we know what it’s like.”

Cartwright said prior to discovering Kids With Cancer and the Ronald McDonald House, hotel and travel costs would have gone up into the thousands just so they could make it to important doctors appointments.

The Kids With Cancer Society ended up helping pay for all of those expenses for them, while the Ronald McDonald House provided a place to call home when they were in Edmonton for their son’s treatment.

According to Cartwright, the Chozen Breed MRC bikers did their own separate fundraisers earlier this summer to help make the donation.

In order to raise money for organizations like the Ronald McDonald House and Kids With Cancer Society, Scotty’s Burger Shack puts $1 from every item they sell into the Fight for Hope fund.

Cartwright says they’re grateful for the communities support in fundraising for these organizations.

“We’ll always sell burgers and donate as long as we are open. Even during COVID, it was iffy, but we just kept pushing on and other people kept donating. We are just thankful for those who did support us so we can support those families.”

Over the last three years, Scotty’s Burger Shack and Fight For Hope have raised over $60,000 for these charities.
