Paul Rovin Ngemital vying for a seat on City Council

With the municipal election quickly approaching, another resident in the City of Grande Prairie is gearing up for election day on October 18.

Paul Rovin Ngemital has lived in Grande Prairie since 2014 and says he decided to run for council because he wants to make Grande Prairie a safer and more inclusive community.

“This community is growing, and the way things are going, if it wasn’t this pandemic, we will be having a lot of people very, very willing to come here because this community is a welcoming, safe, and a very good place to raise our kids to grow and play.”

“I am an immigrant so I think that having a safe and inclusive community would be a benefit for the diversity we have in this community,” said Ngemital.

He adds this includes improving public transportation, and shelters, as well as more playgrounds and affordable sports and recreation facilities.

“So, everyone can be able to afford it because most of the time those programs are not affordable for low-income families and that is something I would like to see in Grande Prairie.”

Being bilingual with French as his first language, Negemital wants to see language barriers removed for Francophones moving to the community.

“I would like to see Francophone people come to this community and still feel at home, so I would like us to have in every public office a bilingual person who can welcome Francophone, the same way that we welcome English people.”

Ngemital is one of 19 candidates vying for a seat on council. A full list of candidates and election details can be found on EverythingGP’s municipal election page.
