Storm winless streak pushed to six games

Oct 9, 2021 | 8:59 AM

After battling back from a 3-1, third period deficit, the Grande Prairie Storm allowed three goals in the final seven minutes to drop a 6-3 decision to the Drayton Valley Thunder on Friday night.

Kadyn Chabots power play goal halfway through the first period would get the visitors ouyt to a one goal lead after 20 minutes.

Ethan Strang’s power play goal a little over six minutes into the second period would tie the score, but Lucas Krol and Dylan Price would find the back of the net before the end of the period to give the Thunder a two goal advantage heading into the third period.

The Storm would throw everything they had at Drayton Valley early in the third, and would be rewarded as Evan Gass (first career AJHL goal) and Jacob Visentini would both score to tie the game up at 3.

However, Thunder captain Brett Bamber would score the winner at the 13:13 mark of the third period, after a clearing attempt by Storm goalie Aidan Feddema found its way onto the stick of the Drayton Valley defenceman.

Hunter Price on a power play, and Jack Silverberg into an empty net would add insurance markers for the Thunder (6-1-2).

The Storm (1-6-2) will try to snap their six game winless streak on Saturday night when they host the Olds Grizzlys at Bonnett’s Energy Centre.

Puck drop is set for 6 pm.
