Oct 16, 2021 | 9:00 AM

Red Deer RCMP have laid a First Degree Murder charge following the death of a two-year-old.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit says it was at about 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 10 when they received a request to attend a residence in the City to assist EMS. It was said that a two-year-old had sustained critical injuries.

The child was taken to local hospital where they died of their injuries.

RCMP aren’t saying in which part of the city the alleged crime took place.

Further investigation led to the arrest of an adult female at the home, and RCMP are also not disclosing the woman’s relationship to the child, though they do acknowledge they were known to each other.

The woman, who is 30, is from Red Deer. Due to a publication ban, her name and the victim’s name cannot be released.

RCMP say no other suspects are being sought, and that they won’t be releasing any further information as the matter is now before the courts.
