Grande Prairie’s Grain Bin Brewing Company earned some accolades at the 2021 Alberta Craft Beer Awards on October 19.

Grain Bin’s beers placed second in the Imperial and Strong Beer category and third in the Mixed Fermentation Beer with Fruit category.

Dalen Landis, the brewer for Grain Bin, says his staff is excited to be recognized for their work.

“I think it’s really encouraging to see such an explosion in the Alberta craft beer scene. All of the winners Wednesday were deserved, and we feel honoured to be among them.”

Landis says both of the award-winning beers are popular amongst residents in the Swan City. The beers that won are called Move Your Car and the Imperial Stout.

“So, this (Move Your Car) was a beer that was part of we had a chore series. So for every chore that you had to do, there was a beer that kind of corroborated with it as well,” he explained.

“In the past, we’ve done ones like Weed the Garden, or Shovel the Snow or Stoke the Fire. With each one of those styles, we would pair with a beer that we thought was appropriate.”

Landis says their Imperial Stout was a beer that was meant to stand out.

“We wanted a big, bold, strong warming beer. So, that was the Imperial stout, it’s on the strong assault,” he said. “It’s 10.6 per cent alcohol and it’s a really thick dark beer. It’s got lots of dry chocolate and coffee and fun flavors like a nice are kind of brought out from the from the malt.”

Landis says they still have some of their award-winning beers at Grain Bin for people to pick up and enjoy.

The beers were judged by experts and craft beer enthusiasts from across the province.
