Storm open weekend series with loss to Pontiacs

Oct 23, 2021 | 7:13 AM

Four goals in the opening two periods were more than enough for the Bonnyville Pontiacs to put away the Grande Prairie Storm on Friday night.

The Pontiacs opened the scoring with Matteo Giampa netting his third of the season 12:29 in the first period.

Bonnyville would also tack on goals from Ethan Sundar, Jonathan Barker and Austin Saint to take a 4-0 lead heading into the third and final frame.

The Storm tried to fight back in the third, but it was too late.

Zach Brooks and Edge Lambert both scored for the Storm in the final frame to bring them within two goals, however, Sundar would pot his second of the night to secure a 5-2 Pontiacs victory.

Storm goaltender Aidan Feddema stopped 17 of 21 shots in the game, before being replaced by Ty Marcinkowski in the third period. Marcinkowski stopped all 10 shots he faced.

The Storm will look to snap their three-game skid at home once again against the Pontiacs. Puck drop for Saturday’s game is 6:00 p.m. at the Bonnetts Energy Centre.
