Storm hosting “Tighty-Whitey Toss” Friday in support of Rotary Dignity Drive

Oct 26, 2021 | 11:09 AM

The Grande Prairie Storm have partnered up with the Rotary and Rotaract Clubs of Grande Prairie to host a “Tighty-Whitey Toss” in support of the Rotary Dignity Drive on Friday, October 29.

Storm Business Manager Ryan Carter says they have partnered with the clubs to hopefully help boost donations and help more people in need.

“The Storm really pride ourselves in getting involved with charities. The Rotary (clubs) approached us about possibly participating in a drive to help the homeless and less fortunate in the region,” he explained.

The bi-annual donation drive sees the clubs collect donations of new packages of socks and underwear for the street-engaged population in the city.

Rather than just collecting donations at the door, the Storm decided to put a little twist on the initiative and decided to create a Dignity Drive style “Teddy Bear Toss” to help raise donations.

“We’re going to treat it much like our Teddy Bear Toss and at the first goal of the game for the Storm, fans can throw brand new packaged socks and underwear on the ice that will be collected as part of this drive,” said Carter.

Carter reiterated the items thrown on the ice or donated must be brand new and in a package.

While they don’t have a goal in mind for how many items they want to raise, Carter says there’s been buzz building in the city for this event.

“It’s grown a lot bigger than we were anticipating,” he said. “We’re really hoping to get a lot of fans out for the game and bring some awareness. It’s a great cause that really hits home locally here.”

The entire Dignity Drive in Grande Prairie runs through Sunday, October 31.

Residents throughout Grande Prairie are encouraged to also drop off donations of fresh underwear and socks at Costco, Keddies or Centre 2000 if they can’t make it out to Friday night’s game.

The Storm take on the expansion Blackfalds Bulldogs on Friday, tickets can be found by clicking here.
