Downtown Association gearing up for annual Halloween festival

Oct 29, 2021 | 11:31 AM

The Grande Prairie Downtown Association is going ahead with its annual children’s Halloween parade and event Saturday morning.

The event is completely free for all ages and will take place at the Bowes Events Centre.

Downtown Association Executive Director Wendy Bosch says this year’s event will feature tons of activities for kids to take part in.

“We have not had regular Halloweens here for kids over the last couple of years. Last year we did our best and had everything outside.

“This year, there’s going to be plenty of photo ops, a live performance by the Cavalcade Theatre Company, we’ll have a costume contest with prizes, the candy walk will be the same in the city centre core and can do their trick or treating and then it’s back to the Bowes Centre for hotdogs, juice, and cookies.”

The schedule shapes up as follows:

  • Start and photo ops (11:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m.)
  • Theatre show (11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.)
  • Costume contest (12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • Candy walk (1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.)
  • Hotdogs/juice/cookies – photo ops (2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.)

Bosch tells EverythingGP, the festival will be safe for everyone to attend, as everyone 12 and older must be fully vaccinated if they want to participate.

“Because we are using a city venue, their regulations are to use the R.E.P. (Restriction Exemption Program), so we are going to use that policy.”

While last year was odd and different for everyone involved, Bosch says she’s excited to welcome all of the kids and family’s back for what should be a great day of fun.

“Last year we did our best and had everything outside. Outside is difficult when it’s cold, but we really want to see the kids back and interact with them. Indoors is much easier and we can interact with the kids much more. I think it’ll be fun.”
