The Municipal District of Greenview has a new Reeve.

At its October 26 meeting, Greenview Council members appointed Ward 9 Councillor Tyler Olsen to serve as the new Reeve and Ward 8 Councillor Bill Smith as the Deputy Reeve.

Olsen replaces Dale Smith as Reeve. Smith, who remains on council as the councillor for Ward 5, served as Reeve for the municipality since 2019.

Olsen is a long-time resident of Grande Cache and has experience in the industrial and commercial trucking industry. He also spent 17 years as a volunteer firefighter and is still the Captian for Grande Cache Station #33.

Olsen is serving his second term on council and joined the municipality back in 2019, after Grande Cache dissolved as a town.

“I am honoured by the support of my fellow Council members in electing me to serve as Reeve for Greenview,” said Olsen.

“We plan to work together to move forward with continued improvements to Greenview economic development, infrastructure, roads, and investment in our communities.”

Bill Smith will be serving his third term as a member of council for Ward 8 in Grovedale and second as Deputy Reeve.

Smith spent his career as a self-employed tradesman working in and around the region while operating his family ranch, before running for public office in 2013. He comes from a multi-generational ranching family in the area.

“I have seen many changes in my short political time. It’s a steep learning curve but very rewarding, and I’m looking forward to working with both returning Councillors and our newly elected members of Council,” explained Smith.

“I look forward to helping new Councillors in any way they may need to make their time enjoyable while keeping everyone engaged.”

Each year, Council meets to choose a Reeve and Deputy Reeve.
