Storm top Blackfalds to snap winless skid on “Tighty-Whitey Toss” night

Both the Grande Prairie Storm and the Rotary and Rotaract Clubs of Grande Prairie came away big winners Friday night.

For the Storm, they snapped a six-game winless skid by beating the Blackfalds Bulldogs 4-1 on what was known as “Tighty-Whitey Toss” night.

In support of the Rotary and Rotaract Dignity Drive, new packages of socks and underwear were thrown on the ice after the Storm’s opening goal of the game and collected for non-profit organizations in the area to distribute to those most in need in the community.

Fans did not have to wait long to toss their donations on the ice, as Zach Brooks finished off a cross-ice feed from Edge Lambert just 3:51 into the game to give the Storm a 1-0 lead.

The Storm would then pick up the scoring again in the second period, as they would add three more unanswered goals from Ethan Strang, Lambert and Sam Vincent in the middle frame.

Goaltender Aidan Feddema stopped 19 shots in the win, losing the shutout bid with just 50 seconds left in the third period.

The Storm, who now sit with a record of 3-12-3 on the season, will look to make it two wins in a row tonight as they host the Drumheller Dragons. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m.
