Grande Prairie records two COVID-19 deaths, 15 new cases

Two deaths from COVID-19 have been reported in Grande Prairie by Alberta Health on Wednesday, bringing the number of fatalities from COVID-19 to 51 since March of 2020.

The deaths were among the five reported to Alberta Health from the North Zone over the last 24 hours. The deaths occurred between October 24 and November 2, and were individuals between their 70’s and 80’s in age.

A total of 14 deaths from COVID-19 were reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours, bringing the provincial death toll to 3,133.

Meanwhile. the city added 15 new cases of COVID-19 and 15 recoveries for Tuesday, November 2, bringing the active case total in the Swan City down to 143.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were six new cases and five recoveries recorded Tuesday, bringing the active case total to 57.

As a whole, Alberta added 487 new cases on Tuesday following the completion of 10,348 tests, resulting in a 4.7 per cent positivity rate.

Active case totals, as of November 2 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • Clear Hills County: five active (-1)

Across the province, hospitalizations increased by six to 697, while the number of ICU patients went down by four to 155.

Of those admitted to intensive care with COVID-19, 129 are unvaccinated and 17 are fully vaccinated.

In the North Zone, 98 people are in hospital (up, six), while nine people are in the ICU (unchanged).

In Grande Prairie, 72.2 per cent of people who are eligible have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine (59.9 per cent of the total population), while 64.6 per cent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated (53.6 per cent of the total population).

In Alberta, 87.2 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 80.6 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
